Prof Tan Kong Yam

Professor Tan is an economist with over 30 years experience in the economics and funds management industries and is one of the world’s leading experts on China and Asia.
Professor Tan was the former World Bank Senior Economist for China, based in Beijing, and the former Chief Economist for the Singapore Government. As a member of the World Bank, he worked with the Chinese government, the People’s Bank of China, the Chinese Ministry of Finance, the National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) and the State Council in developing China’s 11th 5 Year Plan (2006-2010) and economic policies.
Professor Tan co-founded APS Asset Management, a boutique funds management firm based in Singapore, that specialises in Asian investments and which has won numerous funds management awards.
He is a Board Director of APS and Capitamall, one of the world’s largest property investors in China.
He lectures on China at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and has taught over 6,000 Chinese government and business leaders and entrepreneurs over the last 20 years.
Professor Tan’s role is to develop the macroeconomic strategy and investment thematics for the EMR Capital Resources Fund and to update Fund investors on the impact of developments in the Asian economies, especially China, on commodity markets and prices.
Professor Tan is a graduate of Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and received his doctorate from Stanford University. He has received numerous teaching and research awards and scholarships and has published many leading texts and papers on the topic of China and Asian economics.
